With a Little Help from my Friends
Rebeca and I have been friends for 27 years now. She is actually a friend of mine from home, Israel. When I was dreaming about a jewelry store, we knew each other 10 years. After moving to PEI from New York City where Rebecca and I had had many adventures, I called her one day. I said to her, “Rebeca, I need a $1000.” She said, “What crazy thing did you do?” I said, “Nothing yet. But nothing you wouldn’t do.”
I went on to tell her about my idea to design and craft jewelry. I needed money for supplies, stones, beads, and sterling silver.
This is the power of friendship, she didn’t actually have the money, but because she loved me and believed in me, she borrowed it from another friend and gave it to me.
It only took six weeks to pay her back. Nessya’s Gems & Jewels was born. Today Nessya’s Gems & Jewels flagship store is located on 64 Queen St. in downtown Charlottetown. In 2008 Nessya’s was the only jewler to be invited to the Historic Seaport of Charlottetown for the summer -fall cruise ship guests. Also in 2008, the Halifax International Airport in Nova Scotia, too, invited Nessya’s to their boutiques & shops.
